Railway transportation is entering a new era, which is shaped by advanced materials, intelligent manufacturing technologies, and an increasing demand for safety, performance, and sustainability. As rail systems become faster, more efficient, and more complex, ensuring the structural integrity of components under demanding service conditions is more critical than ever.
This symposium explores the intersection of material science, intelligent manufacturing, and structural engineering in railway applications. It highlights advances in high-performance materials, data-driven process control, and techniques for monitoring and predicting structural behaviour across the lifecycle of rail infrastructure and rolling stock. Topics of interest include fracture and fatigue, stress analysis, damage tolerance, crack closure, joining technologies, coatings, ageing, environmental effects, surface engineering, laser repair, and structural health monitoring.
Through these discussions, the symposium aims to foster innovation that supports the reliability, durability, and long-term resilience of modern railway systems.
